THE LAW OF LIBERTY

From the October 1933 issue of The Christian Science Journal

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE proclaims liberty for the human race from the basis of Spirit and spiritual law alone. Who does not yearn to see those bruised by contact with the world, those carrying secret wounds of sorrow and hurt, those oppressed by disease and decrepitude, those deluded by sin and suffering and deceived by a wrong sense of right, finally set free? Christian Science directs this compassion into practical fulfillment. It brings to mankind deliverance from such discords on the scientific ground that they have no place in God, divine Mind, or in Mind's perfect, spiritual creation. Evil has not the support of spiritual law.

The true sense of God alone enables one to discover his own divine individuality and that of his fellows. It is obvious that the creator cannot impart to His creation anything which He Himself is not experiencing. Then the initial step towards winning our own freedom from evil lies in grasping the fact of the creator's entire freedom from everything that is material and afflictive. The subsequent steps are pointed out through spiritual vision and human teachableness.

In newborn humility dawns the recognition of Spirit as the only creator of man. This understanding of man's spiritual origin and heritage opens to all the vista of present deliverance from evil through the pure and inspired sense of sonship with the one Father. "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."
