The study of Christian Science has been and is a constant source of inspiration and joy to me. I did not come into Science primarily for physical healing, although since I began this study I have experienced several physical healings, of colds, toothache, headaches, sprains, and the need of wearing glasses. I came into Science because I was attracted by its irresistible logic.
I was brought up in the Greek Orthodox church, and received most of my education in the Greek schools, where I was taught to love and revere the Bible, as well as any book based on sound logic. However, there were many things in the Bible which I could not understand or reconcile to the so-called advanced thought of the schools.
A few years after coming to America I was led in a most unexpected way to meet an artist in this city, a Christian Scientist, with whom I decided to study art privately. This artist's sound judgment and purity of thought on subjects other than art were so convincing that discussion on religion was utterly unavoidable. I was very proud of having been brought up in the Greek church, but after discussing religion a few times with her I discovered that through these discussions light had been thrown upon things which had puzzled me for years. This joyful experience induced me to investigate Christian Science. I began to attend the Sunday services, and I shall never forget how deeply I was impressed by their simplicity and by the peace that pervaded the meetings. Later I purchased and carefully read, three times in succession, the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the reading of which gradually opened my eyes to an entirely new world of light, loveliness, and beauty.
