So many healings have come to me through Christian Science that it is with deep gratitude I send this testimony. The first proof of the efficacy of Christian Science came to our family when an elder sister was perfectly and permanently healed after being given up to die by the best physicians in a large city.
At this time I was so worldly minded I did not pay any attention to Christian Science. Several years later I became sick, and my father suggested that I try Christian Science. I laughed at him and told him I would not think of it. Very soon my condition became serious, and for several weeks I could not eat anything. I fell off from one hundred and sixty pounds to ninety pounds. I went to see two physicians. One told me that I was a very sick boy, and that the trouble looked like walking typhoid fever. The other seemed alarmed about me, too, but could not tell just what was wrong. He said it looked like a poisoned system. These two visits the same day not only scared me, but made me realize I was in the wrong hands. At this time it dawned on me that Christian Science was the only thing which could save me. As our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says on page 166 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "Failing to recover health through adherence to physiology and hygiene, the despairing invalid often drops them, and in his extremity and only as a last resort, turns to God."
I hurried to my father and told him I was ready to try Christian Science. We took the train that night for a distant city. He went with me, even though he was very busy. Afterwards he said he was afraid I should never get there by myself. When I got in my berth that night on the train I threw a shoe box full of medicine out the window, and said I hoped I should never take any more as long as I lived.
