ETERNAL life was demonstrated by Christ Jesus as the divine consummation of his ministry, and the possibility of its present attainment is frequently mentioned in the New Testament. For example, in the Gospel by John we find the assurance that those who believe in the Christ "have eternal life." Jesus said, 'This is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life," and, "He that believeth on me hath everlasting life." A firm basis for our hope comes when we couple these statements with Jesus' words, "I give unto them eternal life."
It is not too bold a statement for the Christian Scientist to make that he has found the way to express this life without end. This way was discovered and elucidated by Mary Baker Eddy, and we realize through her teaching that we have eternal life now. Consequently, it is the privilege of everyone to prove that now man expresses eternal being.
It is because of Christian Science that we are able to lift the sense of believing to knowing, to the understanding of God and man. Pondering the familiar words, "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent," we note that Jesus indicated the understanding or definite knowledge whereby the consciousness of eternal life is obtained and retained. The futility of mere belief about anything is apparent; so let us consider the need of understanding Life, God, that we may express or demonstrate immortality.
