Christian scientists are ever ready to express their sincere gratitude for their religion; they are generous in their deep and earnest protestations of the great benefits they have enjoyed from the utilization of Christian Science, but this gratitude must be expressed in action. In order to become more active in expressing gratitude, it is important for each Christian Scientist to recognize and to cherish the orderly process of Truth's unfolding in his experience; for in this way he is better equipped to recall to himself, and to share with others, the practical, helpful means through which he has been led into a conscious possession of spiritual knowledge.
In the experience of one student, it was study of the Bible, the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and the Manual of The Mother Church, brought to her attention in sequence, that taught her the truth. This spiritual education lifted consciousness into the realm of reality, gradually unfolding receptive thought into demonstrable understanding. It is well, therefore, to receive into our thinking an ever increasing appreciation of these precious books, whose contents illumine the thought of all who give earnest attention to them.
Speaking of the Christian Science textbook, Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 456), "It is the voice of Truth to this age and contains the full statement of Christian Science, or the Science of healing through Mind." In her great work of discovery our Leader had no authority or guide but the Bible. And in "TheFirst Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 230) she says of the Manual, "Of this I am sure, that each Rule and By-law in this Manual will increase the spirituality of him who obeys it, invigorate his capacity to heal the sick, to comfort such as mourn, and to awaken the sinner." Is it possible to desire more than is offered in these precious books, the privilege of gaining the understanding of the Science of spiritual healing? Think of it—gaining the exact knowledge of divine Mind's healing power!
