From the March 1933 issue of The Christian Science Journal

[Original testimony in German]

I give this testimony in deep gratitude to God, also to Christ Jesus, and to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. About five years ago I was sent to a hospital because of illness; my legs and back had become paralyzed so that I had to be carried, and my internal organs had become inactive. In the hospital I was treated by three physicians for fourteen weeks. At the expiration of that time the head physician told my mother that my spine must be operated on. My mother would not consent, but declared that I could just as well die at home. So the following day she took me away from there and put me again under the care of our former doctor. When he saw me and noticed my condition he remarked that healing was out of the question. Besides this physician various others were consulted who unanimously declared that they had never treated such a case.

In this sad condition I turned to Christian Science through a dear acquaintance who had found healing in this Science. I put my trust in this teaching and bought myself the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I studied it for some time and then asked a practitioner to work for me. This was in October, 1927, and in May, 1928, I was able to take a trip back to my home. The healing progressed visibly so that after about a year I was able to travel alone to Berlin to attend church services, which always greatly refreshed me. The internal organs began to function regularly; but the stomach continued to cause difficulty. Then when I heard the Reader at a service read, "Now is the accepted time: behold, now is the day of salvation," this trouble also left me. I now enjoy a good appetite. I feel so uplifted and strengthened that I can walk alone to neighboring villages over distances taking several hours. I am unspeakably grateful, for I understand something of what Jesus meant when he said, "Ye must be born again." Only through such faithful searching and studying as our dear Leader made possible by the Lesson-Sermons can I progress in understanding. I give thanks from the bottom of my heart for the gift of Christian Science.—
