The desire to be more obedient to Article VIII, Section 6, of the Church Manual and a recent experience have taught me the necessity of obedience to Mrs. Eddy's admonition in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 392) to "stand porter at the door of thought," in order to defend myself successfully. Evil suggestions seemed to come to me so fast that I became confused, fearful, and frequently discouraged. However, I gained courage and mental poise as I persisted in the daily study of Christian Science. Soon a clear vision of man's true being replaced the confusion, and I realized that the evil suggestions had never been my thoughts; that since they have no real source, they are powerless and need not be feared.
I am very grateful for the many healings that have resulted during about six years' acquaintance with Christian Science. I have been healed of faith in materia medica and of nervousness, heart disease, anaemia, frequent sore throat, and the wearing of glasses.
One outstanding proof of the ever-presence and availability of divine Love was the painless removal of a fibroid tumor, for which six or seven years previously surgeons refused to operate on my mother. The same evening she was about, and the next day, Christmas, she prepared dinner for the family and guests, and this without fatigue or any after effects. This healing took place over two years ago. At this time we realized more clearly that healing in Christian Science is regeneration, for mother said she felt a great sense of humility and love replace hard thoughts. This individual progress resulted in improved home conditions; and more love and unity were manifested.
