For some time I have desired to add my word of thanks for the great benefits I have received from Christian Science. The study was not taken up for a physical healing, although that seemed to be very much needed, but I was searching earnestly for a religion that was satisfying and practical.
For years I had been active in my old church, but as I became more dissatisfied, I decided to enter a theological seminary, thinking I might get a better understanding of God than I had received through our preachers, who had been very loving and patient with my questions. However, I was prevented from entering this seminary, and six months later, in 1923, Christian Science was presented to me again in such a way that a desire was aroused in me to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I had a healing of influenza through Christian Science in 1918, but as I had many material duties, I felt I did not have the time to spend reading a book.
I was in a very bad condition physically. Three doctors told me that an operation was all that would give me relief. I did not have this operation, and that is how Christian Science found me. I began earnestly to read day and night, and when I took a retrospective glance some four months later, I found that all those ailments had disappeared—when, I never knew. This was accomplished just through the study of our textbook. My family and I have had many healings since then, through the help of practitioners as well as through our own understanding. Severe sprains, grief, sorrow, electrical burns, and children's diseases were readily overcome. Even our dog, who was run over by an automobile, recovered through Christian Science treatment.
