Testimonies of Healing

I feel I owe a great debt of gratitude...

From the January 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I feel I owe a great debt of gratitude for the teachings of Christian Science. I have had many wonderful healings, some instantaneous and some gradual. For many years I suffered from sick headaches, especially while traveling. On one occasion, while suffering severely, I entered a restaurant where an orchestra was playing a beautiful selection. It reminded me of the passage in Science and Health (p. 276): "Harmony in man is as real and immortal as in music. Discord is unreal and mortal." A clear realization of this enabled me to leave the restaurant absolutely free from suffering. This was one of my first proofs.

I have also been healed of an infected finger, sprained ankle, sore throat from which I suffered for years, ptomaine poisoning, and many undesirable traits of disposition. I have been able to make practical application of Christian Science in business. For many years I tried to do well the smaller tasks, until I was released from them by being placed in an executive position. This enabled me to prove to a greater extent that the truth operates wherever correctly applied.

Our son was healed in twelve hours of an acute attack of appendicitis. I held steadfastly to the presence of God's power and the power of God's presence. Through this wonderful teaching, his fear of the water was destroyed, and one year later he was able to demonstrate the dominion of God's reflection at a time when he lost control of himself in a strong ocean current. He reached for a rope and found it pulling him down. Instantly he realized that by looking to God he would be cared for. He immediately exchanged "the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul" (Science and Health, p. 269), and was carried by the current to a platform, where he quieted his thought and realized to a greater extent that God is "a very present help in trouble." He then swam to shore without human aid, in the same current which before had seemed to control him. In the years following he has advanced rapidly in swimming and diving. He is an attendant at the Christian Science Sunday School.
