I learned of Christian Science through the healing of a tubercular hip. When I was a child at boarding school I slipped on the stairs and injured a hip, and this injury later on developed into tuberculosis of the hip. I had to be taken home. The doctors thought that a long rest would cure me, but after eight months the expected healing had not occurred, and I had to be sent to a sanatorium. In spite of the best care of doctors and nurses I gradually grew worse, and at the end of fourteen months they declared that they could do nothing more for me.
Although the physical suffering was great, the mental was still greater. I could not understand how a God of love could send illness to His children, and I felt sure that because Jesus' healings had been true twenty centuries ago spiritual healing should still be possible today.
At that time my mother heard of Christian Science, and not hesitating a moment to try the last resource, went to a Christian Science practitioner, who lovingly took up the work. The practitioner told my mother to put all doubt and fear away, and that a change would occur in my condition.
