Out of deep gratitude for Christian Science and for the many blessings received through it I wish to give the following testimony.
In 1921 I fell severely ill with stomach and intestinal ulcers. I suffered great pain, and loss of blood so weakened me that the attending physician told my family to be prepared for the worst. I had to lie abed for nearly three months, keep a strict diet, and take a great deal of medicine. When I finally got up, my former strength did not return; I was left weak and often ailing, and was frequently despondent.
While I was in this state a dear friend told me about Christian Science. She lent me a few Heralds, which I read diligently but without gaining a clear comprehension of their message. I expressed a desire to be better informed and asked for further enlightenment. She gladly helped me and took me to an earnest adherent of this true religion, who went into the subject fully with me, dispersed my doubts, and patiently answered my many questions. A few months went by, and I became an earnest reader of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and later an attendant at the local Christian Science Society. This was in October, 1922. Then one day the old complaint returned, with severe hemorrhages, and again it seemed as if there were no longer any help for me. But it only seemed so; I had grasped the good teaching of Christian Science, that God is Life and that Life can never be dependent on matter. I therefore put my trust in spiritual treatment, and my dear mother, who in the meantime had learned to think the same way, asked for Christian Science treatment for me. Those days are still very vivid in my memory; many fears vanished, my trust in God's ever-presence and man's spiritual being was so great that I was not in the least surprised when in a few days I found myself entirely free from pain. In two weeks I was able to do my housework and to eat what I desired.
