Confidingly she came and touched my arm—
Please may I take your hand across the street?
I glanced at her, a child with happy eyes
That knew no doubt. Her simple faith so sweet
Endeared her to my heart; and hand in hand
We crossed together.
Father, I would be
As humble and confiding as a child,
To take Thy hand in calm security.
So when the stress of mortal mind would seem
To dim my sense of good, let me entreat,
As did that little stranger child to me:
Please may I take Thy hand across the street?
