It is with a great sense of joy and gratitude that I testify to the healing efficacy of Christian Science. I had been interested in this Science for about two years when the so-called influenza epidemic broke out during the time of the world war. One morning I was stricken with this malady, and seemed to be losing consciousness when my mother asked if she should call a practitioner. I gave my consent, and Christian Science treatment was begun. In a little while I thought I heard a voice utter the words, "Talitha cumi," but I was not able to think clearly enough to realize their meaning and I lapsed into unconsciousness. Again I heard these words, but they meant nothing.
This happened several times, until finally I was able to remember their interpretation, "Damsel, I say unto thee, arise," and that they were the words Jesus used when he raised Jairus' daughter from the dead. Then I reasoned that they were also meant for me, that they were as effective then as when they were uttered by Jesus, and that I could arise. I immediately arose from my bed, dressed, and in a little while I ate a hearty meal. On the second day I was about the house as usual, and on the following day I was at my daily work. Since this healing Christian Science has met my every need.
I am grateful that we can apply Christian Science not only to our own problems, but to those of others. Some time ago a niece of mine, a girl of eleven and a student in a Christian Science Sunday School, was sent home from school one morning because she had what the school nurse diagnosed as "pink eye." She asked me to give her Christian Science treatment, which I did. The second day she went back to school and again was sent home, this time by the school principal. That afternoon I went to see the child and in talking with her the root of the trouble was uncovered. She said: "Since I am studying hygiene and learning about microbes and germs and what they do, I am getting all mixed up. I don't know whether to believe this or to believe what I learn in Sunday school." While talking to her I tried to destroy her belief in germs and their supposed power; and another treatment was given that night. The following morning she went to school and was examined by the school physician, who said he could find nothing wrong with her eye, and she was allowed to remain in school. Through Christian Science treatment I have seen this child beautifully healed of scarlet fever, whooping cough, mumps, an abscess on an eye, and tantrums which the entire family feared and dreaded. These are only a few of the many healings I have witnessed and experienced through the study and correct application of the teachings of Christian Science. I could tell of many more.
