Nineteen years ago I turned to Christian Science as the last resort. For three years I had been under doctors' care, and they had been very kind and had done all they could to help me. After all medicine had failed, one doctor advised an operation; another said that I could not survive one. One doctor was kind enough to tell me that I might live for some time if I stopped taking medicine, saying I had already taken too much. I had tuberculosis of the throat and a complete nervous breakdown. I stopped taking medicine. Then I became a constant sufferer with spinal trouble. When the suffering was so severe, I prayed with all my heart to God to send someone who could relieve my suffering, even if I could not get well. My husband begged me to try an operation and I finally promised him I would, as that seemed the last resort.
A dentist who was a friend of ours, knowing my condition, urged my husband to take me first to a chiropractor of whom he knew; this was done, and with the first treatment I got relief. The chiropractor told my husband that my condition was serious, but that he would do all he could to relieve my suffering. I felt that God had answered my prayer and that He would surely show me some way to get well. I did not know at first that this doctor had read the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. He told me I was just about cured, but not to give him credit, for it was my faith in God that had done the work. He then told me of Christian Science.
In eight months I was as bad as ever, and was suffering and discouraged. Then I remembered what the chiropractor had told me about Christian Science and started to attend church and read the textbook. I was relieved immediately, and in a short time was permanently healed of the tuberculosis of the throat and the nervous breakdown.
