Christian Science was brought...

From the August 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science was brought into our home when I was a small child, through the healing of my father of stomach and bowel trouble. After he had been given up to die by many physicians he was completely healed through Christian Science treatment. Soon after his healing, he and my mother took up the study, as a result of which our entire family was greatly blessed.

During my girlhood and young womanhood I relied on this Science for healing, guidance, and protection. It was a great help to me during four years of college. I wish especially to express gratitude for the Christian Science organizations at the colleges and universities. They are indeed oases in the desert to those first entering college, and they fill an important place in the student's life as he continues his studies. I used to wish that the meetings could be held more often and last longer. The opportunity of serving in our University society was a great help to me also. Since becoming a wife and mother, I have found Christian Science of untold value. Our two children were born under Science treatment. I am especially grateful for the harmonious conditions surrounding the birth of our second baby. I was in the home of a dear friend, who is a practitioner, and was attended by a Christian Science nurse. Everything was very harmonious. The baby came on a Friday and I attended church the following Wednesday and gave my testimony. Both of our children turn to God for help in all their difficulties. Our elder boy had a beautiful healing of intestinal influenza. He seemed to be very near "the valley of the shadow," but he was healed through absolute reliance on Truth. I am very grateful for the loyal and patient help of the practitioner during that experience. I had a healing of this same disease a year or more before that time.

If it is possible to be more grateful for one thing than another in this religion of Love, I should say that the blessed privilege of class instruction lifted me higher than any previous experience. It has given me the understanding to heal all illnesses which have presented themselves to various members of the family, and has enabled me to help others more than ever before. I am so grateful that my teaching was the result of demonstration. It was worked out with God, and no personal influence entered in. May all the dear students who are striving for a higher understanding realize the importance of making this step a demonstration.
