Mrs. Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 294), "Man's genuine selfhood is recognizable only in what is good and true." A dictionary definition of "genuine" is, "Actually belonging to, or proceeding from, the reputed source, origin, or author." According to this, he who is desirous of realizing his genuine selfhood will find his effort less arduous when he learns to regard God, the divine Principle of being, as the "source, origin, or author" of the real, spiritual man, and refuses to look to matter in a vain attempt to deduce his conclusions from the discordant evidence it is constantly seeming to present.
This calls for clear reasoning, which involves vigorous affirmation of the genuine man's spiritual identity as Mind's idea, expressing true activity and unchangeable reality. It also calls for an equally vigorous rejection of all that past traditions and prevalent theories offer concerning a kind of man whose lack of genuineness may be determined by his departure from the good, the true. Spiritual man ever reflects God, and actively utilizes His power. Each individual spiritual consciousness has its place in God's great plan and is divinely equipped for spontaneous right activity.
As we carry into daily practice a firm determination to throw off false thought-habits, allied to material inexistence, we become better fitted to receive the outpourings of divine Mind. The sunlight of Truth shines through spiritualized thinking with an abundant and impartial grace, as effortlessly as solar light pours through open windows.
