Not long since, the regular meeting of the officers and teachers of The Mother Church Sunday School convened in the original Mother Church edifice.
Decided attention was given to the need for a better knowledge and better teaching of the Scriptures. Answers to such questions as these were discussed: How can we study more intelligently? How can we learn more about the Bible? It seemed the consensus of opinion that the Sunday school pupils are better taught only as the teachers' understanding grows.
By way of illustrating the fruitage of the Sunday school work which blesses children in Christian Science families, and those from other families not directly interested for themselves in this subject, the superintendent read several letters. Among them was one by a pupil's mother who stated that her son had benefited much from his pupilage. She said that after being in the Sunday school for a few sessions he was taught the verse from Job 5:12, "He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise." Later, when accosted by a man whose intent was harmful, this verse of Scripture came to the boy's thought and protected him. Another letter told of an eight-year-old boy who had been learning the Commandments. Lodging one night in a strange house without his parents, he could not go to sleep, and became scared, as he afterward told his mother. So he began repeating the Commandments, and, describing the experience, said, "When I had said five, I was not very scared, and when I had said eight, I wasn't scared at all."
