About four years ago, after one serious major operation, I was told that another one would have to be performed immediately. All that could be promised afterward was simply a regaining of consciousness.
My family, who had placed me in the hospital, at last consented to my having Christian Science help exclusively for a short time. Three hours were given us, with the surgeons and operating room held in readiness. My wife called a practitioner at once, and we closed the door to my room. Jesus' words at the tomb of Lazarus were the first I spoke when we were alone. "Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always." Fear was completely banished, and for three hours we gave thanks for the constant operation of divine Mind, while the practitioner at her home was working for the harmony of the true man to be manifested. At the end of this time the doctors made a thorough examination, and with much joy found that the need for another operation no longer existed.
At that time I weighed only ninety pounds and required the constant attendance of private nurses. The doctors and nurses were very kind and did everything possible for my material comfort. An immediate gain in strength and weight was made; and one month later I was discharged from the hospital. Less than three months later I made a twelve-hundred-mile auto trip, doing a large percentage of the driving. In one month more I was back at work for the first time in over two years. Even though positions have been considered very hard to get, I have been continually employed since that time, and have been able to meet every requirement of my daily work.
