I should like to express my gratitude for the many benefits which have come to me through the study of Christian Science, and my deep gratitude to God and to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. Christian Science was brought to my notice twenty-five years ago; and with the help of practitioners and friends I have had numerous healings and blessings. Many years ago I was visiting in a London home in which everyone was opposed to Christian Science. I felt this opposition in everything I undertook. Soon I was seized with a violent attack of toothache. A dentist said that the tooth was in very bad condition and must come out. As was customary at that time, and because of certain difficulties in the work, he decided to give me gas. A great sense of fear came over me, and this fear made it almost impossible for him to bring me back to consciousness. A doctor was called and I was taken to the house, where a hemorrhage set in. The doctor was unable to stop the bleeding and declared that my case was very serious, that nothing could be done for me, and that I might not live through the night. At the time I was so weak that I could not move or speak. All those around me, believing I was unconscious, gave free voice to their fears and to what they thought was going to happen to me. With all this about me I felt that I was slowly slipping away into utter darkness. Then I started repeating to myself all I knew of the wonderful truth which we are taught in Christian Science. Little by little I felt the numbness giving place to peace. Soon the others left me, and in a very short time I was able to move about. With great difficulty I went to the room of a lady who was with me in the house, and who was a student of Christian Science. She had been helping me mentally amidst all the turmoil. I was still unable to speak, as the hemorrhage had not stopped, but I was able to let her know that I wanted a practitioner. I had to wait several hours before the practitioner could be reached by telephone. Within twenty minutes after the work started the hemorrhage stopped and I was healed. I got up that day, to the astonishment of everyone.
Since this demonstration of the power of good over evil, I have had many more healings and blessings. I endeavor to make continual progress and perfect myself in this wonderful truth. I am grateful for all benefits received; for membership in a branch church; and to God that His wonderful works have been revealed to us through our Leader.— Paris, France.
