TRUE CHRISTIANITY

From the November 1935 issue of The Christian Science Journal

True Christianity is of the heart. It is the planting of God. It is an essential expression of individual faith. No human decree can stop the true worship of God. There is that in each heart which responds to God. Men have tried to formulate creeds through which to carry on their systems of worship, but false systems have not proved successful.

It is easy to see that different creeds and administrations of ordinances might war with one another. Mary Baker Eddy, in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 583), defines "Church" as "the structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle;"and further, as "that institution, which affords proof of its utility and is found elevating the race." Progress certainly demands that we leave the material concept of church for that "which affords proof of its utility" in the healing works of Christian Science.

True religion is found in the Christian's heart, and is the evidence of his worship of God. Jesus said, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away;" also, "Before Abraham was, I am." This statement applies to the Christ; it applies to the real spiritual man. Man is not something existing apart from God.
