FRIEND

From the November 1935 issue of The Christian Science Journal

All call him friend,
This man who never seeks
Acclaim for word or deed;
Who never turns a deafened ear
To those who seem in need.

A man who never speaks of men
Unless he can commend,
But never leaves unsaid the words
That urge an upward trend.

He stands not in the market place
That all may see and hear;
His one desire, to bring the light
To those enslaved by fear.

No! Fame is not his goal;
With him self plays no part;
Yet none forget the day
They look within his heart.

Yes, such a one is—friend.
