Testimonies of Healing

I am thankful indeed for the privilege...

From the April 1936 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am thankful indeed for the privilege of telling what Christian Science has done for me during the last thirty years, and also for what it has done for my family. I did not come into Science for healing, but to satisfy myself as to whether or not it was the true religion, as I had read and studied enough about different religions to know that there could be but one true standard of Christianity. I am thankful to say that I had been reading the book, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, but a little while before I was sure that I had found that for which I had been looking; and I soon saw that what it stated was logical, simple, and, above all, practical, and strictly in accord with the teachings of the Bible. I was quite familiar with the latter, but could get very little comfort or satisfaction out of it until I began to study Science and Health, and then it became a new book to me. Now I have the two most precious books in the world to help me in solving the problems of health, of business, and of personal relationships.

Among the many healings in our family were those of a severe case of pneumonia, healed in a few days, double vision, rash on the face, stomach disorders, lumbago, rheumatism, and chronic headaches. Over two years ago, while I was in a store in a nearby city, I started to go through what seemed to be a dark hall, and fell into what proved to be an elevator pit. I landed on my right shoulder and arm, causing fractures in the shoulder, arm, collar bone, and shoulder blade. I seemed to be in very bad shape, and as my son was with me, I sent him to a practitioner who lives in this city to ask for help, as I seemed to be suffering too much to see the truth clearly. When my son brought me home, I stood the trip well and thereafter gained a little each day, until about four months later, with the help of this practitioner, and later another loyal Scientist, I was entirely healed. To me this is the most wonderful healing of all, as to material sense I seem to be getting along in years. For this blessing, and for the help I received, I am truly grateful.

I am grateful indeed to Mrs. Eddy for giving to the world this precious gift, Science and Health, together with all her other writings, including the Manual; for giving us The Mother Church, the Publishing House, The Christian Science Journal, Sentinel, and Monitor. She has done everything for us humanly possible, and it is clearly up to us to follow her teachings, and be "doers of the word, and not hearers only." I am grateful to be a member of The Mother Church, and am trying daily to express my gratitude for what I have received by living up to my highest understanding of Christian Science.—
