The method of Christian Science healing is scientific. That is to say, the Christian Scientist heals sickness and overcomes sin, or any other inharmonious condition, by an understanding of the divine Principle which sustains creation, and of the rules which enable one to come under the law of Principle—spiritual law.
Christian Science teaches, even as Christ Jesus and the Hebrews of old taught, that there is one infinite God, divine Principle; that God is perfect, and that His creation, man, being the reflection of God, is likewise perfect. This teaching is fundamental. It cannot be departed from in the least degree. Were Christian Scientists to forsake it, the basis of their practice would be gone; and they would accomplish no more genuine spiritual healings. But nothing can shake that basis. No argument of the carnal mind can do so; for nothing which this so-called mind appears to testify regarding matter or evil can weigh one iota in the balance against the truth of God's allness and perfection, and of man as God's perfect reflection.
On page 259 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy writes of the basis of thought and demonstration in Christian Science practice thus: "The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,—perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of thought and demonstration." There we have the secret, so to speak, of the healing method used in Christian Science—the understanding of perfect God and perfect man. Be convinced of this great spiritual truth; apply it to erroneous belief, whatever its apparent nature, and the rule has been set in operation whereby the belief is destroyed.
