A simple, profound statement in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which is often repeated, frequently applied, and dearly loved is that found on page 494: "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." It conveys promise, assurance, and fulfillment, and through the application of the truth therein many have been healed of sickness, sorrow, and lack.
There are, however, those who seem to have failed in the demonstration of this truth, though they have earnestly believed and prayerfully expected healing results. A careful analysis of the words may reveal some of the reasons why, to mortal sense, divine Love appears to have failed to meet our human needs, for no truth of Christian Science ever has failed or ever can fail when correctly applied. Mrs. Eddy exercised meticulous care in selecting the words which she used, and in order to perceive the full import of her writings it is often of inestimable value to consider the meaning of even the most familiar words.
The statement in the textbook assures us that "divine Love always has met" our need, and always will meet it. God is unfailing in the fulfillment of His promises. Goodness is the very essence and substance of real being. God is good, and is ever expressing His nature through man. God is all-knowing Mind, and Mind is Love. Our part, therefore, is to hold our thinking to ever-present, ever-loving Love. In other words, to go forward with open, childlike trust to meet or turn to Love, which is forever blessing all.
