IN MEDITATION

From the September 1936 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Word of God is bringing reassurance
That all is well in every height and deep;
This truth sustains the prophet in endurance,
That there is wealth for men which they can keep.

Men gather things which with the using perish,
They build their hopes like phantoms in the air;
They see the fading of the loves they cherish,
They cannot find a respite from their care.

Yea, men have many burdens, many sorrows,
But be no critic, giving weight to woe;
Despair beclouds for some all their tomorrows,
Let love illume the right way they can go.

No one shall fail of knowing God's perfection,
No one defeated be by death or hell;
The Christ hath conquered, and shall win affection
Till all mankind in heaven's kingdom dwell.
