TRUE CONSCIOUSNESS

From the September 1936 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One's experiences largely depend upon thoughts one harbors in one's consciousness.

Christian Science is teaching mankind how to become conscious of the supremacy of Spirit, God. It reveals the nature of God and His spiritual universe. Gaining the spiritual consciousness of being is the highest attainment. It means that one must be conscious only of good, every thought being brought into obedience to Christ. To the extent that this is accomplished one becomes conscious of the facts of creation—the real universe, the universe of Spirit—in place of the false material sense of universe with its beliefs of sin, disease, and death.

Beginning on page 263 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy says: "The fading forms of matter, the mortal body and material earth, are the fleeting concepts of the human mind. They have their day before the permanent facts and their perfection in Spirit appear." Today, many are standing on the threshold of Christian Science, which reveals this universe of Spirit, wherein is discerned the complete dominion of divine Mind, God. In the hard and dry soil of human experience has been planted the seed of hope, and as this seed, watered by those great truths, unfolds to flower and fruitage, the individual awakens to the clearer realization of the kingdom of heaven and the true brotherhood of man taught by Christian Science. This ideal thus becomes a practical fact to be enjoyed here and now.
