A PATTERN FOR SUCCESS

From the December 1938 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Jesus prayed, "Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven," and Christian Science is bringing this prayer to fulfillment. The expression "in earth" gives us assurance that Christian Science, founded as it is on the Christ, Truth, is concerned with the solution of common daily problems. In true Christianity there is no hint of a postponed salvation. Day by day and hour by hour, in whatever circumstances we find ourselves, God's power is here to be used in all rightful activities.

So we find Jesus living in accordance with his prayer in all his own daily activities: furnishing refreshment for the wedding feast, feeding the hungry followers in the desert place, helping his companions to resist temptation, and healing the sick. Knowing that the operation of God's will "as it is in heaven" is the law of perfection, he applied this rule of good to daily life on earth. He came to teach us to have a more abundant life of useful service and right satisfaction now, that we might learn to follow him in solving rightly all the problems of daily living.

One of the important series of problems with which our earthly life is concerned is that of wisely choosing an occupation or career, securing adequate preparation for its pursuit, finding opportunity to practice it, and making the necessary adjustments leading to satisfactory service, promotion, and success. What help can Christian Science give in this field of human life?
