CHRISTMAS CONSUMMATION

From the December 1938 issue of The Christian Science Journal

He who in truly humble reverence
Holds on the course the faithful Master trod,
Finds priceless waymarks, plentiful, complete,
To guide in selfless service to our God.

And if in honest, consecrated work
His light shines out, is seen of other men,
They, too, may glorify our Father, God,
Their hearts with love and joy be stirred again.

At Christmas, if, with gifts not of this earth,
Impartially he blesses one and all,
The angels' cry, Peace on the earth, good will,
Shall find more grateful hearts on which to fall.

What gifts are these that have no taint of earth?
Love, not of self but born of Love divine;
Thoughts with materiality not tinged—
That only with Love, Truth, and Life align.

Thus may the spirit of the living Christ,
Which Jesus showed the world, entire, complete,
Make every day a glad, true Christmas Day
And all the years with loving deeds replete.
