"THE END OF THE WORLD"

From the December 1938 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world," said Jesus. These words of the Master brought fresh inspiration to a student of Christian Science who found himself confronted with what appeared to be an insurmountable problem. It was very comforting to him to abide in the knowledge that the Christ, Truth, was within his consciousness "alway, even unto the end of the world"—even unto the final destruction, through spiritual understanding, of the belief of life, substance, and intelligence in matter. With this realization, the student was given renewed energy to continue overcoming the harassing obstacles of the flesh, and naturally a complete healing was manifested.

In contradistinction to the views entertained by some theologians on "the end of the world," Christian Science removes all sense of mystification and horror, revealing this mental experience as a joyous opportunity to witness the complete van quishment of all inharmony. In our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 459), Mary Baker Eddy has admonished us that we "must gain heavenly riches by forsaking all worldliness."

"In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." Christ Jesus did not ignore the seeming appearance of discord, but with calm assurance, knowing that nothing is impossible with God, he rose above and completely eradicated all beliefs of the carnal mind which confronted him. Through Christ, Truth, we too are spiritually equipped to "overcome the world"—to meet and to master all phases of materiality. Each time we triumph over error, to that extent we are witnessing "the end of the world." It requires courage to resist evil and destroy it. This heaven-bestowed faculty can be intelligently utilized today, just as surely as it was by the spiritually illumined patriarchs throughout the centuries.
