My introduction to Christian Science was the healing of my mother a number of years ago. At that time she had been pronounced incurable, suffering from influenza and pneumonia. After a consultation of five leading physicians in our city, their verdict was death—which they claimed was but a few hours off. In our despair we turned to Christian Science, about which we had vaguely heard, and within a week my mother accompanied me on a trip west. Whereas she had to be taken to the train in a wheel chair, by the time we reached our destination she was able to walk without aid.
This healing astounded us, but while we thought it was wonderful, we did not immediately seek to know more about the religion which had brought about such a miraculous healing. It was only after many years had passed and my mother was again sentenced to death, with Bright's disease, that we remembered the former healing, and again turned to Christian Science for help. This time, however, the healing was not accomplished so quickly. It took months of deep and consecrated study to effect it; but when at last she was entirely well, we were overjoyed, and in the meantime we had learned much of the wonderful truth which had effected both these cures.
In my own experience I have had many beautiful demonstrations of the power of divine Love. For years I had been subject to severe head colds; and it had become a habit during each winter to expect at least one of these each month. After I took up the study of Christian Science these colds gradually lessened, until now I can thankfully say that I am entirely free, both from the malady itself and from the fear of its recurrence.
