Testimonies of Healing

The Bible tells us that "the word...

From the December 1938 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Bible tells us that "the word of God is quick, and powerful." Several years ago this was proved to me so convincingly that I desire to tell others about it in order that they, too, may share in the joy and inspiration that it has been to me.

On going into the bathroom one morning, in some inexplicable manner I slipped and fell backwards over the side of the tub, striking my head on a built-in porcelain soap container on the wall over the tub. My position was such that it was impossible for me to lift myself out, and I had to call to my husband for help. As soon as he had pulled me up a little way, and my head was removed from the soap container, the blood gushed from my head in such a manner as to indicate serious trouble. My husband was much frightened and said he was going to call a doctor. This seemed to arouse me from a slight stupor and I insisted that he call a Christian Science practitioner instead. He went to the telephone, a distance of about eight feet from where I was, and asked for help. As he returned to me, the bleeding stopped! However, there seemed to me greater pain than before, and although I was suffering so intensely that I could scarcely speak, I went to the telephone to talk to the practitioner myself. In a calm and loving manner she told me to lie down, and to have someone call her in ten or fifteen minutes. At the end of fifteen minutes I was entirely free! With the exception of a slight sense of lassitude, I was quite comfortable all day, enjoyed my meals, and went out in the evening to visit friends. The next day an examination of my head by a member of the family showed that the cut had almost completely healed, leaving no soreness or discomfort at all. The instantaneous stoppage of the bleeding was beautiful, but the marvelous relief I received from the intense pain was even more impressive, and it has been a very uplifting and inspiring memory to me.

We have had many healings in our family, and for each one I am increasingly grateful. But I am more grateful for the understanding and the great comfort that Christian Science brings to those who turn wholeheartedly to its teachings. I am truly grateful that, in answer to my prayer in a great hour of need, God led me to the little church where I learned more about Him and His loving care. Indeed, Christian Science has meant everything to me, and each day it grows nearer and dearer to my heart.—
