For twenty-eight years Christian Science has met my every need, and I do not have words to express my deep gratitude for the protection afforded me during these years.
My first healing was instantaneous and came soon after I began to read our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I had used tobacco for many years. One day I read these words on page 404: "If a man is an inebriate, a slave to tobacco, or the special servant of any one of the myriad forms of sin, meet and destroy these errors with the truth of being,—by exhibiting to the wrongdoer the suffering which his submission to such habits brings, and by convincing him that there is no real pleasure in false appetites." All desire for tobacco left me immediately, and it has never returned.
Another proof of God's protection came to me one time when I was on a railroad train. I awakened late in the night in very great distress. Conditions were so severe that it seemed impossible for me to think, and after trying for some time unsuccessfully to clear my thought, I turned to God and said, "I have done everything that I know how to do, and now, God, You will have to help me." In a very few minutes I was entirely free from all inharmony, and slept soundly until morning, feeling no ill effects from this experience.
