Christian Scientists cannot help observing that the successful student is one who works and studies, studies and works, unremittingly and consecratedly; who is faithful and consistent in his persistent search of the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings, in prayer, in church work, in the reading of the Christian Science periodicals, in the unflagging effort to see that his every thought, word, and deed expresses God's infinite love.
In our own experience we find that it is only as we work faithfully and consistently, make genuine and persistent effort, and obediently hold to the truth about God and man under all circumstances, that we are rewarded by progressive demonstration of good.
Mary Baker Eddy, who herself was a willing, straightforward, unremitting, loving worker for the healing and blessing of all mankind, says (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 340), "There is no excellence without labor; and the time to work, is now." She also says (Message to The Mother Church for 1900, p. 2), "The song of Christian Science is, 'Work —work—work—watch and pray;'" and farther on, "The right thinker works."
