It is commonly known that during recent months, prices of many commodities have substantially increased. This is especially true of the printing industry, particularly of that branch involved in the publication of newspapers. Newsprint, ink, in fact all materials used in this enterprise, have advanced in price, and wages in the trades have risen sharply. Also, a large increase in cost of foreign postage has been absorbed. The result has been that in order to carry on, publishers of newspapers have very generally been obliged to raise the price of their publications. The Christian Science Publishing Society has been no exception in having to meet these higher prices, both for materials and for labor.
The Trustees undertake to administer the affairs of this Society wisely and economically. Nevertheless, they are now faced with a situation that apparently can be solved only by raising the price for the publications named below. Accordingly, to meet the situation, the Trustees have established the following increase in subscription rates, to become effective on May 1, 1938:
