With a heart full of gratitude I...

From the May 1938 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With a heart full of gratitude I wish to tell of a few of my experiences in Christian Science. Over seventeen years ago I was in bed with an ulcerated throat, and after I had used material remedies without result, my mother, who was studying Christian Science, advised me to give it a trial. This I did. A practitioner was immediately called upon for help, which was lovingly given. I got straight out of bed, and also went out to a party that night, although it was still painful for me to swallow. However, the next day I was healed, and since that time I have never tasted medicine or been in bed through sickness. It was directly after this healing that I took up the study of Christian Science.

A few years ago I experienced a healing of mushroom poisoning in four hours. After eating mushrooms for breakfast I suddenly felt very ill, and a rash appeared on my hands. I went to my room and endeavored to know that God's child cannot be ill, but gradually I became worse. The rash covered my body, causing extreme irritation, and my face was swollen and discolored. When my mother entered the room I said, "Something dreadful has happened to me;" but she answered: "Nothing has happened to you, only you are full of fear. Get fear out of your thoughts and you will be all right." In the meantime she telephoned to a practitioner, cleared her own thought, and told me to read. I then got Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and read for a while and became calmer. The rash by this time had spread to my legs; still I clung to the truth and kept on reading, and by lunch time the rash had disappeared and my face was normal. I ate a good meal, and attended the testimony meeting at church that night. I was also healed of a poisoned foot, when those around me said it should be lanced by a doctor.

Christian Science has helped and is still helping me to carry out my duties as a secretary and editor, which require constant use of the eyes; and I am sincerely grateful to God for this "daily strength for daily needs." I am also deeply grateful to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for this divine revelation; for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church; for class instruction; and for the help of practitioners.—
