CONSTRUCTING A BETTER BODY

From the January 1939 issue of The Christian Science Journal

THE need of obtaining and maintaining a better sense of body is considered by a majority of mankind to be one of the greatest needs confronting the human race. All will agree that health and strength are very desirable and essential, but as to the best method of securing satisfactory results, very few are found to be in agreement, except those instructed in the teachings of Christian Science.

Before attaining the spiritual enlightenment which this Science generously affords, people, in general believe man to be material, strength to be in muscles, nerves, bones, and health to be solely physical. Hence the persistent effort to do something for the physical body, internally and externally, in order to obtain greater strength and better health! In the forces of the army and navy, and in many schools and colleges, compulsory inoculations and other forms of medical treatment are considered necessary for men and women to ensure that they be well and strong. Much stress is laid on what are termed body-building foods, some of which are to be used sparingly, others generously.

Students of Christian Science are very much aware of humanity's need of better health, strength, harmony, and general well-being, and yearn to share with their fellow men the understanding of the Science of Life, Mind, divine Principle, which will secure for them results that are more satisfying than anything offered by materiality.
