At the height of a successful career as an obstetrical nurse, I was stricken with a serious condition of the heart. Medical aid afforded no relief. My father, who is a Presbyterian minister, had taught me to pray, but none of our prayers availed. I was not expected to live, and a student of Christian Science who had known our family for several years called at our home to see me. I had spoken very bitterly about what I thought was Christian Science, both to this friend and others, but this morning our friend startled me by saying, "I am surprised at your breaking the First Commandment by having another God, by believing in an evil power—death." Leaving with me this thought and a statement from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 494) "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need," the friend departed. In fifteen minutes I was completely and permanently healed.
At this time my husband and I were considering divorce. The situation was healed, and now we have a loving, happy home. In Christian Science we have proved, with every member of our family, that God is Life. The eldest boy seemed to have passed on one evening. Work was quickly done, with the result that he is a fine, strong boy today. One of the most outstanding of the many splendid healings was that of broken ribs. Our younger son was carried home one evening in a semiconscious condition. It was discovered that some ribs were broken. My family, who are not Christian Scientists, were in the home visiting. They insisted that the child be taken to a doctor, but the child chose to have only Christian Science help. We worked for him all night, and in the morning turned on the radio to hear a Christian Science program. The opening hymn contained the verse:
"I look to Thee in every need,
And never look in vain;
I feel Thy touch, eternal Love,
And all is well again."
