MORE love has always been and still is the world's greatest need. Even many who do not understand that divine Love is the Principle of all real being will agree that when there is enough unselfed love in human hearts, war and poverty will have vanished forever from the human scene. To the earnest student of Christian Science, the realization that Love is the supreme fact, the eternal substance of real being, grows continually clearer. He knows that God is Love, and that God is all-powerful. And he is striving to aid in bringing to light divine Love's government of the true man and the true universe.
How clearly did the Leader of the Christian Science movement, Mary Baker Eddy, comprehend the necessity for Love's guidance at all times and under all circumstances! On page 454of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" she says: "Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way. Right motives give pinions to thought, and strength and freedom to speech and action. Love is priestess at the altar of Truth." And in the same volume (pp. 537, 538) she beautifully expresses the profound concept of "the nature of God, who is Love always, —Love infinitely wise and altogether lovely, who 'seeketh not her own.' "
Mrs. Eddy knew that spiritual love is the way of wisdom; and how tenderly and patiently did she strive to teach men to love, not only their friends, but those who believe themselves to be enemies! She was a consistent and faithful follower of the great Master, who said, "Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven."
