PHYSICAL HEALING THROUGH SPIRITUAL MEANS

From the December 1939 issue of The Christian Science Journal

THE healing of physical disease through Christian Science proves the practical nature of this teaching, assures one of God's tender care, and rejoices the heart.

Spiritual healing, in the way Christ Jesus taught, by which the body is delivered from its ills, the human mind rid of its fears and cleansed of its sins, is an unspeakable blessing to this age, appreciated by an everincreasing host of grateful people. The many who have experienced these blessings rejoice not only that physical ills have been healed, but also that there has come a spirit of peace, comfort, and happiness, a feeling of spiritual progress, which is the natural result of spiritual healing.

While Christian Scientists have ever before them the goal of spiritual perfection—the demonstration of the kingdom of heaven within—it is self-evident that conditions pertaining to human living and the human body must be improved, and finally overcome, in order that complete spirituality may eventually be demonstrated. We progress by improving present conditions, and step by step advance towards the goal of spirituality. To take to wings of fancy and vainly to imagine that we have gained more spirituality than we have demonstrated, does not place us any farther along the line of demonstration or leave us with fewer material beliefs to overcome. Every error that presents itself to the human mind is a challenge to rise higher spiritually and learn more about God. The effort put forth in this direction is true progress and, conscientiously applied, brings healing.
