"THE STARTING-POINT OF DIVINE SCIENCE"

From the December 1939 issue of The Christian Science Journal

THROUGH inspiration, spiritual intuition, and revelation. Mary Baker Eddy discovered the Science of Christianity, and gave to mankind her elucidation of her discovery in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." The Discoverer and Founder of this great truth tells us on page 275 of this precious book that "the starting-point of divine Science is that God, Spirit, is All-in-all, and that there is no other might nor Mind,—that God is Love, and therefore He is divine Principle." Since all sincere students of Christian Science follow our Leader's inspired teachings as divine revelation, they make this "starting-point" the basis of correct thinking.

"The Lord he is God; there is none else beside him." So is this "starting-point" set forth in the Bible for those hungering and thirsting for knowledge of Truth. God is All-in-all; He is the one Mind, the one Love, the one Principle, the one good. There is no other Mind, no other Love, no other Principle. Principle is the basis of all right thinking and acting; it maintains harmony and governs justly.

Moses declared the oneness and allness of God, saying, "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord." And Paul spoke of "one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." This oneness and allness is the distinctive quality of God, all-inclusive and eternal Spirit.
