In Revelation it is written, "And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea." On page 536 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes, "In St. John's vision, heaven and earth stand for spiritual ideas, and the sea, as a symbol of tempest-tossed human concepts advancing and receding, is represented as having passed away."
It is my happy privilege to testify to the passing away of many "tempest-tossed human concepts." From birth, I was considered to be an incurably sick child. Physicians thought that I could never reach the age of twelve years. The maladies were blinding sick headaches, lasting from two to four days; tonsillitis, which kept me confined for a period of about two weeks in midsummer; swelling of the face and neck, accompanied by a high fever and locked jaws. Bowel disorder, chronic appendicitis, and shattered nerves caused me great suffering. All of these ailments remained in evidence until I reached the age of twenty-three, at which time I began the study of Christian Science.
A loving practitioner was called, and in a very brief space of time I realized great courage, and knew that something wonderful was taking place in my consciousness. Soon I was aware of the healing of the appendix, and of the throat and bowel disorders. I studied hungrily, and found my new heaven and my new earth in the fulfillment of the beautiful promise in Jeremiah, "I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord." When the darkest hour came, the dawn of my freedom was at hand.
