Testimonies of Healing

[Original testimony in German]

Our Leader writes in the Preface...

From the February 1939 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Our Leader writes in the Preface to Science and Health (p. vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." My family and I have been privileged to experience in rich measure the truth of this assurance. Difficulties of many sorts, which appeared insuperable according to human judgment, were harmoniously overcome with the help of Christian Science.

The light of the healing truth came to me when I was most anxious about the health of our then thirteen-years-old son. At the age of three and a half years he fell while playing. As a result of this accident, tuberculosis of the bone developed in the knee joint. In the space of a year he was treated by ten doctors, who did their best; but neither their endeavors, nor a year's stay in a sunshine sanatorium, nor sojourns at watering places and in hospitals, brought any lasting healing. At best there was only a temporary improvement. Whenever he made a careless move the wounds broke out again; then he had to lie still for weeks, and thereafter be taken to school in an automobile. With the last of these relapses, which was especially long drawn out, we lost all hope in the effectiveness of the healing methods we had been using.

In my great distress I prayed to God that He would show us how our son might become well again. The answer to this prayer soon came: after a very few days friends called my attention to Christian Science. I grasped this message with hope. With my son I visited a Christian Science practitioner and asked him for help. He explained to us the nature and operation of Christian Science, and when we left after an hour my son could already move, without feeling any pain. The healing had begun. In the meantime, our son had to undergo a physical examination at school. Part of it included an X ray, which showed that the knee was all right, except that one of the five wounds had not yet closed. The doctor assured me that it would not heal without ray. treatment. To his astonishment we declined such treatment, but at the end of two weeks this trace of the error had also disappeared. Here God, our Great Physician, had wrought a complete healing.
