IT is with a sense of deep gratitude to God that I can truly testify to the healing power of Christian Science.
On April 24, 1937, while my husband and I were near Augusta, Georgia, returning by automobile to our home, a speeding car skidded on the wet pavement and ran into us head-on. Our machine was almost completely demolished, and I was so seriously injured that I remember nothing of the trip to the nearest hospital, about ten miles distant. On my arriving at the hospital, X rays were taken, and it was found that one of my ankles was broken, and also both arms between the elbow and shoulder. The breaks in both arms were similar, and were in a spiral lengthwise manner, with a loose splinter, about four inches long, entirely detached. The ankle was placed in a cast and both arms in splints. It was believed that I could not be moved for some weeks, and that the healing would probably take from six months to a year. My husband immediately got in touch with a practitioner in Washington, who, on the third day, most lovingly came to us in our trouble, and whose work in Christian Science made it possible for me to be moved on April 30, and to be in my home two days later. I shall never cease to be grateful to this practitioner for her kindness in coming to us, and for her clear work in a time of such great need.
When the matter of leaving the Augusta hospital was broached to him, the attending surgeon stated the danger of such an undertaking, but said that if we left we must release him from all responsibility, and this we, of course, gladly did. During my entire trip home, not once did I have the slightest fear or pain.
