"To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." That statement, found in the Preface (p. vii) of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, has been one on which I have relied many times. For over ten years Christian Science has been my only physician.
When my daughter was three years old I took my stand for Christian Science. For the first three years of her life she was under the constant care of a specialist, who, after consulting with other physicians, told me that the child would never be well, and that, owing to heredity and so forth, her diet would have to be watched for the rest of her life. At the beginning of her third year I had entered her in the Christian Science Sunday School, and after the doctor's verdict I applied for Christian Science treatment for her. Through the consecrated work of the practitioner, and study on my part, the condition yielded. The healing was not accomplished easily; it called for persistent and radical reliance on God, but the victory over mortal belief was won, and the child was freed from the so-called laws of heredity. Today she is able to eat any kind of food, has never missed a day of school in six years, and enjoys very good health
Five years ago she was beautifully healed of an attack of hay fever and asthma. The attack occurred in September, three days before school was to begin. With the loving services of a practitioner and consecrated study on our part, the condition was met. The day that school opened she walked thirteen blocks to and from school, besides walking up and down three flights of stairs in the school building, with no ill effects. Indeed, "the word of God is quick, and powerful." During this time resentment toward a stepparent was healed, and for this I am unspeakably grateful, because a beautiful sense of loyalty and comradeship has been established. In Christian Science a treatment heals not only the physical ailments, but also the unpleasant traits of character.
