George Shaw Cook, C. S.B., of Brookline, Massachusetts, who has served as an Associate Editor of The Christian Science Journal, the Christian Science Sentinel, and The Herald of Christian Science since June, 1935, now assumes the duties of Editor of these periodicals.
Mr. Cook was born in Iowa and educated in the public schools of Chicago, Illinois, where with his parents he resided from boyhood, and there entered upon a business career. He became a member of a branch church in 1896 and of The Mother Church in 1897, and later served at different periods in branch churches where he held membership in Chicago, as board member and as First Reader. In 1904 Mr. Cook turned from commercial pursuits and became a Christian Science practitioner, and in 1910 he was authorized to teach Christian Science.
As Committee on Publication for Illinois for more than seven years, beginning in 1906, Mr. Cook was well known to the Christian Scientists of that state. As a member of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship from 1914 to 1925 he became known to the entire Field. From June, 1929, to June, 1932, he served The Mother Church as First Reader, and in 1934 he was the teacher of the Normal class in the Board of Education of The Mother Church. Mr. Cook was elected President of The Mother Church in 1939.
