One of the first lessons Christian Scientists learn is to accept spiritual revelations from God, Mind, and, contrariwise, to reject by denial all suggestions springing from any belief in intelligent matter or mortal mind.
In "Miscellaneous Writings" Mary Baker Eddy distinguishes mortal mind from immortal Mind when she writes thus (p. 36): "Mortal mind includes all evil, disease, and death; also, all beliefs relative to the so-called material laws, and all material objects, and the law of sin and death," and on the next page she says, "Immortal Mind is God; and this Mind is made manifest in all thoughts and desires that draw mankind toward purity, health, holiness, and the spiritual facts of being."
On learning from the Bible and the writings of Mrs. Eddy that God, infinite Spirit, is the one source of reality and good, the Christian Scientist perceives that harmony and health can be achieved only in the spiritually mental realm. Here, in the atmosphere of divine Spirit, he must take his stand on the side of the perfection and power of omnipotent Mind, and oppose whatever is based on belief in the reality of matter, material laws and powers supposed to offset good. In this state of thought, reasons for health and harmony abound, but nowhere is there any reason for discord.
