It is with an ever-increasing sense...

From the July 1940 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with an ever-increasing sense of gratitude for the many blessings I have received through the study of Christian Science that I give this testimony.

In the year 1927, I was told that I must submit to another major operation for pelvic ovaritis and fibroid tumor, or I could not expect to live for more than a year.

Three operations had already been performed, but I had obtained only temporary relief. If I have only one more year to live, I thought, another operation is useless. In this frame of mind, I left the doctor's office with the conviction that there was no help for me there. I longed for peace. I had heard about Christian Science and remembered that there was a book about it. So I bought a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and read it from cover to cover as quickly as possible—then again, and again. At the end of the first week, I was sleeping normally, which I had not done for years without opiates. Gradually, fainting spells, which had been occurring from six to ten times a day, ceased. My healing, which has remained permanent, was accomplished entirely by reading the Christian Science textbook.
