I am very grateful for all that Christian Science has done for me, and for all the healings our children have had. For several years I had been very much prejudiced against Christian Science because of an erroneous explanation which someone had given me of its teachings regarding the Bible. I had been a Bible student from an early age, and for over twenty years I was a member of an orthodox church, and helped in various church activities. However, it remained for me to get the true understanding of the Bible through the study of Christian Science. Its textbook is truly a "key" to the Scriptures.
My first healing was a convincing proof to me that God's law is just as operative now to heal all our diseases as it was in ages past. From earliest childhood—for forty years — I was a constant sufferer from headache. Scarcely a day passed in which I was free from pain, and very frequently I would be confined to bed for one or more days. To add to the discomfort, there were constantly recurring abscesses in my head and a continual discharge from my ears. Although doctors and ear specialists had endeavored to heal me, they did not succeed. Soon after I became interested in Christian Science I had such a severe attack of neuralgic headache that I was unable even to stand up. A practitioner lived a few blocks away, and I managed to send a message to her, asking her for help. In less than an hour all pain had gone, and I got up and did my housework as usual. I was completely healed. Always before it would take several days for me to recover from the effects of such an attack. I have never had a headache in the twenty-six years since then. I do not know when the abscesses were healed, because I never had any specific treatment for them, but as they have given me no more trouble I am sure they were healed at the same time.
Only those who have suffered as I had all those years can appreciate how very grateful I am and always shall be to the practitioner who responded so quickly and lovingly to my call for help, and whose spiritual understanding freed me from that bondage. Since that time I have relied entirely on Christian Science for myself, our four children, and a grandson who was in my care, and it has never failed to heal us. Some of the healings we have experienced have been of earache, toothache, sore throat, coughs, colds, severe cuts, dengue fever, influenza, a severe skin disease, and prostration from heat. Some of the healings were instantaneous. Some came through my own understanding and study, and others with the help of a practitioner. I am grateful for the overcoming of fear.
