Ever since I can remember I had...

From the April 1941 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Ever since I can remember I had searched longingly for the truth. I read books on philosophy and attended different denominational churches, some of them only once. At one time I became quite ill, because my search seemed futile. A friend advised me, as a remedy, not to think about these things. Finally, I stopped going to church entirely. Later, I married, and automatically joined the church which my husband attended. A year later the elder of our district came to visit me, and he asked me the reason why I did not attend the services. I replied that I hardly thought he would understand, but he gently told me that he did, because he had been an unbeliever for three years during the war. He then advised me to repeat the Lord's Prayer every day. He also prayed earnestly that I should be led into the truth. For the first time in my life, I felt that I had been given something tangible to help me know how to go on. From then on I prayed that I should be led into the truth.

Not long after that I attended my first Christian Science service. It was the only church in which I could stay during the whole service.

One day I felt that I must have proof by healing in order to be convinced that it was the true religion. I accordingly began to study the textbook in order to heal myself of chronic constipation. This healing took place within ten days of my beginning the study of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Further study healed me of indigestion of several years' standing. I used to have to wear an abdominal belt. I had been told I should have to wear this all my life. Migraine, which was considered hereditary, and which the doctor thought would become more violent as time passed on, has disappeared from my experience.
