It is nearly twenty years since I first attended a Christian Science lecture. I was then ready to inquire into this teaching, and soon knew that I had found what I needed. This Science had been presented to me some years before, but I was not then willing to listen to anything that touched on the subject. Many are the blessings I have since received through its study and application.
I came to Christian Science for physical healing, and, too, with the hope of finding a church where I might know a God who would satisfy. I had always been active in an orthodox church, though I was ill most of my life. Religiously inclined, sincerely reading my Bible, and honest in my efforts to obey God, as nearly as I knew how, I could not understand why I was always having to depend on material remedies, since I knew that Jesus healed the sick and the sinning without them. Christian Science was the answer to my prayer.
I purchased a copy of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, in a Christian Science Reading Room, after hearing the above-mentioned lecture. I had read it for only a few minutes when I realized that I was free from a long-standing throat trouble which I had experienced periodically since childhood. Doctors had claimed that I needed my tonsils removed, and arrangements for an operation had been made at the hospital. This I dreaded very much. Christian Science saved me from this experience. During many years, entire freedom from this throat difficulty has been my joy. At the same time other difficulties disappeared. I was always taking various kinds of medicine for different ailments. Christian Science freed me from this bondage.
